QUICK FACTS AND OBJECTIVES
The project will bring together 28 European local communities to collaborate and learn from each other on the topic of Euroscepticism.
The title of the project, Lyceum, reminds us of the movement of travelling lecturers bringing education to rural communities, similar to this project. It will travel through Europe and offer knowledge on certain topics seen from different point of views, such as political, geographical, historical, sociological, artistic, etc.
The aims are to decrease the level of Euroscepticism in small rural communities, exchange knowledge based on good practices, debate about the future of Europe, and other rather important political matters (Brexit, Immigrant crises, EP Elections, etc.)
The project partners will use a new set of skills and knowledge gained during the project to improve civic participation and local activities among young people in their communities.
The project will consist of seven meetings, which will be innovative and interactive, and will consist of workshops, teamwork, trainings, interactive and empirical games, debates, round tables, and brainstorming.
Through the activities of the project, tolerance and mutual understanding between European citizens, as well as the promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity should strengthen, with the contribution to the intercultural dialogue. In all the meetings, best practices will be adopted to reduce the level of Euroscepticism, and increase the rate of solidarity.
This project will bring together 80-150 directly involved participants per meeting, and 250-300 participants indirectly involved. Expected number of indirect participants should be around 1600.

OCKELBO – THE PROJECT OWNER
Ockelbo Kommun, as an organisation, has many years of experience of being a participant or project manager in projects of many sorts, often funded and controlled by different European Union programmes.
Ockelbo has played an active part in the Charter of European Rural Communities ever since becoming a member in 1994. Ockelbo has organised and been the venue for some of the Charter meetings over the years.
Four people will form the committee for the LYCEUM project. Mr. Joachim Krüger, CFO in our organisation, member of the Charter’s Presidium and the one responsible for the Charter co-operation locally for years. Ms. Monica Åkesson, CCO, with experience in organising events and being well-connected in the Charter network. Mr. Pontus Danbrink, member of the YCT (Youth Co-ordination Team), involved in organising the Youth meeting in 2015 and Ms. Carita Carter, co-ordinator with experience in Comenius school projects connected to some of the other member towns of the Charter.
The project committee will oversee the project’s finances, organise preparations for each meeting, monitor content and conditions, as well as the overall program.
PROJECT INITIATORS AND COORDINATORS
The LYCEUM 2019-2020 project is a result of a Croatian and Hungarian cooperation, conceived and written by the Charter of European Rural Communities application team members, Mr. Karlo Klarin (Tisno, Croatia) and Ms. Zsuzsanna Lukács (Nagycenk, Hungary). Both authors will also take part in the implementation of the project as coordinators securing the satisfying level of execution.
As a member of application team, Mr. Niall Gregory (Cashel, Ireland) was involved as the English editor during the process of project writing.
The project meetings will be co-ordinated in close co-operation with the Youth Co-ordination Team (YCT) and the project initiators/co-ordinators. As a former member of the Youth Co-ordination Team himself, Charter’s president, Mr. Boy Scholtze will also take part in the meetings monitoring the execution of the project, and securing the transparency and visibility of the organisation.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Lyceum project has come to its end after the closing conference held in Ockelbo, Sweden in late August 2022.
